I read the previous reviews cautiously before getting this item and was a bit disappointed for the first couple of days. Having said that, the birds finally figured out that this factor has water in it and now they use it often for drinking and bathing. We have it hanging under the eve on the north side of the home in front of our breakfast nook window. It truly is a whole lot of fun to watch the birds enjoying it. I think the small decorative bird which you can attach to it may possibly have already been what scared them off at initial. But they lastly figured it out.
